Forget what you knew about Anarchy Online, because the Shadowlands is a whole different story altogether. Entitled an expansion pack, the Shadowlands is more like an overhaul. Let's get into some of the nitty gritty...

The Shadowlands takes place on a new dimension in Anarchy Online, with 7 new playfields. A great deal of things from Anarchy Online will be changed, as the Shadowlands focuses most on exploration. The game is broken down into several chapters, but will still allow a non-linear playing experience to a certain extent. Shadowlands features approximately 1,500 new monsters and thousands of new weapons and items. You are no longer allowed to use ships to travel, so all exploring will be much more involved.

There are two new main professions in the Shadowlands: Keepers and Shades. Keepers are more of a warrior type whereas Shades are more thief/stealth like. Each profession has specific attacks as well.

The environments in the Shadowlands are very different from those in Anarchy Online. There are swamps, floating cities, tropical islands, and mountainous regions. There are also brand new sky effects and detailed textures that are four times the level of detail in Anarchy Online. There is also a day/night cycle.

The AI in Shadowlands has been totally revamped to give the player a more exciting and challenging experience. The monsters will now call for help and use more deadly tactics to bring you down. There will also be organized battles and 100 static dungeons for players to explore. Tag-team combat will prove to be very effective in this game.

The Shadowlands will launch on July 22nd, with a modest climb in system specs. You will be able to take your powers back to Rubicon, along with the shadow knowledge you can earn to unlock 20 additional levels.
