Some of you mature readers might remember an old TV series by Gerry Anderson called Captain Scarlet from the 60s. It was much like the famed Thunderbirds show, featuring cool espionage stuff and lots of wholesome action. Some readers probably haven't heard of the series or can't remember it, but Batfish sure does. They're reviving this long dead classic in video game form, and bringing the infectious appeal of the show up to date with today's top down real time action/strategy titles. The story of course is adapted from the show, with the Mysterons attempting to overtake Earth and the Spectrum team of captains stepping in to stop this evil force. Let's get right down to how this game works...

Captain Scarlet is of course the main character, and he is assisted by up to 5 other captains simultaneously. The Spectrum, as the captains are called, consists of 6 captains total, differentiated by color. Each captain has special abilities, such as demolitions, computer expert, diversionary tactics, and weapons specialist. The player must learn to use each captain's skills accordingly in order to proceed through the 14 missions featured in the full game. The game is split up into five episodes, with each episode spanning 2-3 missions each. The player is also presented with the challenge of being limited to only some of the captains on some missions. For instance the first mission only allows the player to control two captains.

The game is played from a 3/4 perspective, much akin to the Commandos series of games. The environments are all very detailed and vast, spanning quite far across a 3d landscape. Each mission's environment is also unique, such as snow, desert, oil refinery, and jungle missions.

The game will feature several drivable vehicles, including the Spectrum Saloon Car, the Angel Interceptor, and the Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle.

There are three difficulty settings which unlock different special features in the game such as art from the TV show. The developers are making sure everything going into the game is very authentic and approved by the creators of the show. The target market for this game is a younger audience, but older fans of the show might really enjoy a blast from the past and should check this title out.

Captain Scarlet will launch in the UK sometime at the end of the summer.
